Loan Terms

Loan periods and number of items that you can borrow varies according to student type.

Local undergraduates can borrow up to 20 items for 28 days (and 2 Reserve items).

Online undergraduate students can borrow 20 items for 28 days.

Renewing

You can renew your loans (unless another borrower is waiting for the item).

To renew loans, sign in to My Account from the Library Search. Select the item you would like to renew and click 'Renew'.

Return by due date

Overdue items attract penalties. Borrowing privileges may be suspended when items are overdue.

Reserve

The Reserve Collection consists of books and other items that have been placed there by academic staff for short term loan.

Books can be read in the Reserve room or loaned. Loan terms are up to 24 hours, or 5 days for Medical Reserve items.

Reserve is situated on the Level 2 of Dixson Library, next to the Service Desk.

Borrowing from home

Online students may request books be sent to their home. This service is for distance students living outside the Armidale area (2350, 2351, 2358).

Students are responsible for the cost of return postage for borrowed items. Sign in to My Account in Library Search to request books and other items. (The Request option will only be visible if you are eligible)

Reserve and closed collection items are not included in this service.

Book chapter digitisation

Online students may request digitisation of a book chapter (or up to 10% of a book). This is for books that are held in print but not electronically. Scans will be emailed to clients' university email account.

  • sign in to My Account in Library Search
  • locate the book
  • open the Get It tab
  • use the Digitisation request link (this will only be visible if you are eligible)

If you are unsure which chapter may be useful, request digitisation of the Contents pages using the same method as above.

 

Journal article/cases digitisation

Online students may request digitisation of Journal articles that UNE holds in print (but not electronically).

  • sign in to My Account in Library Search
  • locate the the Journal where the article is published
  • open the Get It tab
  • use the Digitisation request link (this will only be visible if you are eligible)

For legal case reports that UNE holds in print (but not electronically), please use Library Requests forms.

Borrowing elsewhere

UNE staff and students can apply for in-person borrowing rights at the libraries of University Libraries of Australia and New Zealand (ULANZ). ULANZ is the borrowing scheme for students and staff at Australian and New Zealand universities. Some universities may charge a fee.

Apply directly to the host library, which will require photo ID Card (UNE Card or driver's licence) and proof of your current enrolment.
